The 4 week Tiling course programme is designed to give you the skills knowledge, expertise and confidence needed to become a professional tiler.
Your abilities will build over the period of your Tiling course, allowing you to produce high quality tiling installations.
Tiling courses are taught by qualified instructors giving you the benefit of their knowledge and experience.
Tiling course bays are designed to be challenging including baths, toilets, pedestal wash basin, boxed in pipes, picture rails etc. This will ensure that you can cope with real life Tiling installations.
Tiling course structure
The Tiling course structure is set out to incorporate both practical and theory sessions (80% : 20%) to give you the right balance of information you need. We teach ceramic tiling, this is the basis of all tiling. Once you have mastered ceramics you can install all types of materials from ceramic to natural stone.
We cover all the information required to take the CSCS Health & Safety Certificate, which is required to work on construction sites.
The Tiling course is structured to give the participant the knowledge and skills to:-
- Survey and perform sub-floor levelling operations.
- Specify complete installations.
- Install all types of tiles onto all types of substrates.
- Specify and install under floor heating.
- Advanced setting out procedures.
We concentrate on giving you the ability to perform as a professional tile fixer, allowing you to go on to be a truly professional tradesperson.
On the first week of the Tiling course you will learn the following:
- Estimation of materials required.
- Setting out of walls & floors.
- Preparation of surfaces for Tiling.
- Correct selection of tools, including safe and efficient use of.
- Tiling around obstacles such as sockets and switches.
- How to cut around doors and windows.
- Correct methods of trimming corners.
- Selecting the correct adhesive for the installation.
- How to grout and clean Tiling.
- How to tile using natural stone and many other materials.
On the second week of the Tiling course you will build on the skills learnt on the first week, covering the following:
- Mosaic Tiling.
- Practising different patterns, like diamonds or offsets.
- Doing complex mitres with borders and trims.
- Creating your own designs and patterns.
- Learning how to tile difficult areas like steps or angled ceilings.
- Cutting round or square holes in tiles.
The third and fourth weeks of your Tiling course will build on the skills learnt in weeks 1 & 2, your speed, accuracy and confidence will develop through these two weeks as you gain more experience of different installations and types of tile.
You will also cover these further skills:
- Laying underfloor heating (both matt and cord types).
- Removal of radiators to allow Tiling behind.
- Removal and trimming of doors to allow increased height of tiled floor.
- Reinforcing floors using flexible adhesives and grouts.
- Fitting carpet to tile or door strips.
- Further designs (Tacco's, brickwork, diamonds, etc).
- Creating tile features in kitchen splashbacks with mosaics.
The Tiling course offers enough time for you build your tile skills and speed to the level required in the workplace. Allowing you undertake any installations you may come across.
