plastering About the course

The advanced Construction Award is designed to prepare people for work in a particular construction occupation. It has been specifically developed for delivery within a training environment with assessment based on candidates showing what they can do: -

The ACA route comprises of: -

Core Units
Occupation-Specific Units
Phase test (practical)
Knowledge Test
Health & Safety Test

To gain the award candidates have to be successful in proving competence in all units, and phase test. Candidates will also need to pass an independent Health & Safety test and knowledge test.

These tests are designed to verify the candidate's technical knowledge and understanding, these are set and marked by the awarding body.

N.B. Although individual units can be assessed and awarded to candidates, the full qualification cannot be awarded without a pass in both the independent Health & Safety and the knowledge tests.

Units to be completed to achieve this qualification as follows: -

ACA 173 Assist in establishing the operational area
ACA 174 Assist with progressing operations
ACA 175 Assist with organising resources
ACA 185 Complex internal plastering
ACA 186 Complex external plastering
ACA 197 Complex in-situ moulding

Health & Safety will be integral to all of the above units.

An important feature of the ACA is that is provides a progression route towards achieving a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at Level 3. As all units within the ACA route relate to the units within the relevant NVQ.

The Seven week courses run on a purely practical basis covering all practical (performance) elements of the units. Knowledge information is gained from a work pack (supplied on registration of course), correspondence via internet and telephone conversations with instructors. This is to be achieved in your own time. Once this knowledge information is returned to the centre the assessments can be completed and signed off, we are then able to apply to City & Guilds to register you for your knowledge test.
