A 4-week electrician course aimed at either new entrants to the electrical industry or experienced people wishing to improve their skill level.
At the end of the 4-week electrician course students should have a sufficient level of competence, so that they will be able to work safely and efficiently on electrical equipment.
Combining the following electrical courses City and Guilds 2382 Level 3 Certificate in Requirements for Electrical Installations (17th Edition), City and Guilds 2391 Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations, City and Guilds 2377 Portable Appliance Testing and the EAL/EMTA Part P Qualification within this electrician course. These awards included in the electrician course should give a firm start as a Domestic Electrical Installer.
Part P is the requirement that all work carried out in 'Dwellings' whether it be a new installation, additions or alterations, must be carried out by a competent person. The competent person will have to be registered with one of the bodies approved by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for this. If you are not registered as Part P approved, you must notify your local building control officer, who will inspect your work or appoint an agent to inspect your work.
The EAL Domestic Installer Scheme for Part P is a modular qualification comprising of 17 Units. These Electrical courses lead to a VRQ qualification titled Domestic Electrical Installer. Within the electrical courses you will gain underpinning knowledge for Part P in the following areas:
- Applicable Building Regulations for Domestic Electrical Installation.
- Electrical Safety Legislation, Regulations Standards and Terminology.
- Domestic Electrical Installation - Pre work Survey / Inspection.
- Domestic Electrical Installation - Safe Isolation Procedures.
- Identifying unsafe electrical situations.
- Domestic Electrical Earthing and Bonding requirements.
- Electrical Test Procedure's
- Selecting Domestic Electrical Cable and Components.
- Installing and Replacement of Electrical Components.
- Recording of Electrical Test Results and Completing Certificates.
- Installing and/or Rerouting Domestic Electrical Cables.
- Domestic Electrical Installation - Special Locations.
- New Domestic Circuit Requirements.
- Installing Domestic Lighting Circuits.
- Maintaining Domestic Electrical Installations
- Basic Understanding of 3-Phase Supplies.
You will then need to register with a scheme and have your work assessed 'on site'.
Whilst on electrical courses you will receive a mixture of theory and practical training to give you the necessary knowledge and experience.
Electrical courses have 'hands on' workshop sessions and relating directly to installations in the domestic environment, building ring mains, lighting rings from consumer boards, experiencing how gland and terminate different types of cable as well testing the installations the students has themselves built.

You will be required to return for the City & Guilds theory exam at a later date (exams set at specific times & dates by the City & Guilds).
