About the course
A hands on course designed to give people as much practical experience in the 5 days as possible. This course is suitable for people of all abilities. It will teach theory and practical knowledge of bricklaying, enabling you to build walls using bricks and blocks.
Course content:
1. How to plan your job, including calculating the number of bricks and mortar required per square metre of wall surface to calculating mortar quantities per 1000 bricks.
2. You will learn the correct use of wall ties in cavity walling. How to build pillars, piers and will building using bonding types Stretcher bond, English bond, Flemish bond and English garden wall bond.
3. You will be taught the correct methods of how to run a line.
4. The correct use of lintels both corrugated and concrete for use in window and door frames.
5. You will be taught the correct use of damp course and the correct methods of brick cutting (Bat, Half bat and Quarter bat).
6. Colloquial bricklaying terms will be also taught so that you never feel out of place in any bricklaying environment
At the end of the course you should have the knowledge and confidence to carry out bricklaying tasks. To further your knowledge we would encourage further trade training.
